Temperature and humidity sensors are crucial for monitoring operations and maintaining optimal conditions in various industries. The Hawk is a temperature and humidity data logger offering a robust solution for remote monitoring, featuring broad temperature and humidity sensor integration, rugged design, and reliable connectivity.

What is Temperature and Humidity Monitoring?

Temperature and humidity monitoring involves the continuous tracking and recording of environmental temperature and moisture levels using specialized sensors. These measurements are crucial in a variety of sectors to ensure optimal conditions and prevent damage to sensitive products, equipment, or environments.

Importance of Temperature and Humidity Sensors and Monitoring

In cold chain monitoring, maintaining precise temperature and humidity levels is vital to ensure the integrity of perishable goods, such as food and pharmaceuticals, during their storage and transportation. When temperature and humidity levels exceed certain thresholds, this can lead to spoilage, reduced efficacy, and significant financial losses.

These measurements are key to understanding climate patterns, ensuring the health of ecosystems, and managing agricultural practices. In industrial settings, robust humidity control can prevent equipment corrosion, reduce static electricity, and maintain optimal working conditions.

Temperature and Humidity Monitoring System: The Hawk

The Hawk is a robust plug-and-play IoT data logger and sensor hub designed to support an extensive range of temperature and humidity sensor integrations from a single device. Its design allows for monitoring across broad temperature and moisture ranges, leveraging LTE-M (Cat-M1) and NB-IoT connectivity to ensure accurate readings indoors, outdoors, even in low-signal locations.

The Hawk IoT Data Logger simplifies and enhances remote temperature and humidity sensor monitoring through its advanced features and robust design.

  1. Versatility: The Hawk supports a wide range of temperature and humidity sensors, including the Amphenol I²C T9602 Temp/Humidity Sensor and the DS18B20 Digital Temperature Sensor. This flexibility allows users to tailor their specific monitoring needs across a diverse range of industries. The Hawk also supports advanced, non-contact infrared thermometers for use cases where contact thermometers may not be appropriate, such as food safety or high-risk industrial use cases.

  2. Rugged Design: With its IP68 and IK07-rated waterproof housing, the Hawk is built to withstand harsh environmental conditions, ensuring reliable performance in diverse settings, from cold chain logistics to remote environmental monitoring.

  3. Long Battery Life: The Hawk can be powered by a rechargeable LiPo battery or D Cell batteries, with its design offering extended operation times and reducing the need for frequent maintenance. External power options, such as solar panels, further enhancing deployment capabilities. For more information powering the Hawk, visit the Digital Matter Knowledge Base: (Digital Matter Support).

Collecting and Sending Data with The Hawk

The Hawk IoT Data Logger employs a modular architecture with a baseboard/PCB and plug-in I/O cards that connect to various temperature and humidity sensors. This design allows for the seamless integration of multiple sensor types, providing comprehensive monitoring solutions from a single device. The Hawk uses LTE-M (Cat-M1) and NB-IoT connectivity to transmit data, while also being compatible with an optional external cellular antenna to ensure reliable communication even in remote areas.

The Hawk collects data by sampling sensor readings at predefined intervals or in response to specific events, such as a threshold breach. The onboard microcontroller processes and stores this data before uploading it to a cloud platform via secure cellular networks. This continuous data flow enables near real-time monitoring, immediate alerts for any anomalies, and detailed historical data analysis.

Temperature and Humidity Sensor Data Insights

The data collected by the Hawk is invaluable for maintaining optimal conditions and making informed decisions. In cold chain logistics, near real-time temperature and humidity data ensure that perishable goods are kept within safe limits, preventing spoilage and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Environmental scientists can employ the Hawk to track climate variance and assess the health of ecosystems. The remote monitoring capability and long battery life of the Hawk means that these deployments are ‘low touch’, and these studies can continue uninterrupted for years at a time.

In industrial applications, consistent monitoring helps maintain equipment performance and prolongs the lifespan of machinery by preventing damage caused by unsuitable conditions.
